Proto-Flight Manipulator Arm Assembly Serial No. 0001 No. 849PFM00000 - Manufacturer Code 04236 Next Assembly No. 009 Contractor No. NAS 8-31487 Martin Marietta
We purchased this NASA Robotic Shuttle Arm, serial number 0001, through a GSA auction about 16 years ago. When the NASA employees were loading the Robotic Arm into my husband's truck, he asked them why such a valuable piece of NASA Robotic history was auctioned off. They told him that Homeland Security took over the building it was in, and that everything inside the building was auctioned off. We have the Robotic Arm in a climate controlled display vault. Through the years we have learned from retired individuals who helped in the manufacturing process that Martin Marietta was the main contractor, but most of the work was contracted out.
The pictures show were the electrical controlled was cut off and destroyed prior to the GSA auction. UPDATE: I have been informed that the connections for the controls are, in fact, intact and the cut bare cable is a grounding wire.
What the pictures may not show are the various scratches in the paint, some of which occurred in the moving process. It was moved from the research lab to the archives building, then to the GSA auction pick-up building, then to our delivery truck, then to our bank display vault here in Appomattox, Virginia. Though it is usually viewed in our display vault behind prison-type bars, the Robotic Arm can be closely viewed by qualified individuals by appointment.
This unit contains enough different parts to make 8 combinations of the NASA Robotic Space Arm, which is why the next assembly unit is 009.
We are getting older and are slowly selling our collectibles to maintain our way of life. We'll need at least 4 skilled, muscle movers for local pick-up only.
Payment Required: Certified Check drawn on a major USA Bank
PLEASE NOTE: I have informed possible buyers that cryptocurrencies are not an acceptable payment method. A credit card payment of at least $15,000 would show good faith and allow our respective attorneys to work out the fine details. The balance has to be a certified check drawn on a major American bank.
